Before leaving the court, the GOAT contender made it plain that he wаnted to play with Bronny. Thursday, June 27th, he was granted his request. According to ESPN, the Los Angeles Lakers selected Bronny James in the second round of the NBA Draft. The young man was selected 55th overall.
This is a watershed moment for the Lakers. When this father and son team makes history, it will be the first of its kind in NBA history. Since they are a father and son combo, it stands to reason that they will be the first to achieve it simultaneously. Ever since LeBron James said reporters in 2023 that acquiring Bronny was one more thing on his professional bucket list, the acquisition has been a top priority for James. Announcing, “I need to be on the floor with my boy,” he began. “I got to be on the floor with Bronny.”
Bronny James has received endorsements from other Lakers stars, not only King James. In an interview with ESPN conducted before the draft, Anthony Davis spoke highly of the teen’s skills. On defense, “he’s very good,” Davis gushed to the media. His floor reading skills are top-notch. To me, he’s a master of setting up plays. My gut tells me he’ll be just fine, dude. His dad being who he is, it’s clear that he’s under a lot of strain. Bronny has taken it upon himself to deal with the pressure. The extra attention he’s gotten is mostly because of his father, he said, but he’ll show the NBA that he can play if given the chance.
Questions regarding Bronny James’s involvement with his dad in sports were piling up well before the draft. Nevertheless, he managed to keep his attention on himself. He told the Los Angeles Times that being a good player was more important to him than spending time on the court with his family. “I would be happy about getting to the league instead of me thinking about playing with my dad,” said he.
